Thanks. This may be a dumb question but when you scarf a rib is your cut side-to-side at an angle or top-t0-bottom?

I have a '59 Sea Lancer. Some of the ribs in the stern are rotted up about 6 inches at the bottom. Not sure if I need to scarf in new sections, replace the entire rib (I don't think I'm up to that task) or install sister ribs along side the rotted sections. Appreciate any advice.

Thanks for the tips. How do you recommend you scarf in a section so that it looks decent? I assume you probably wouldn't want butt joints. Should you try to cut it on a 45 as you would a chair rail moulding?

Can anyone recommend a source for the mahogany half-round for a '59 Sea Lancer? Mine suffered a couple feet of damage when a dock line worked loose.

When older motors on a '59 vintage Thompson are replaced with a newer, more efficient motor, is it the general practice to also replace the cable/pulley steering with a newer, single cable design steering? I'd like to maintain the character of the boat but need to replace the outboard
