Free Thompson Boat co. of New York, Inc.

I am giving away to a good home a Thompson Boat Co. of New York, Inc. wooden boat. The overall length is approx 231.5", or just over 19'. The serail number is 23359, the hull number is 23359. The boat was built in Cortland New York. The boat has a four cyclinder Volvo Penta inboard/outboard. I ...

I took the boat over to a local professional restorer to get some advice, and a price to fabricate and install new rub rails. How does $1,100-$1,200.00 sound! He basically said my boat was in need of an easy $9K of work. (Like this was a big suprise.) Anyway, I think we have different scales...

Time

I guess for me it all comes down to time. The time I have already spent, the time I am going to need to spend, and the time I do not have. This boat has been in my extended family for 32 years. In that time I can only remember taking it out once on a trip to Lake Peppen. (Our family has other boats....

Rot

I just investigated my stem area very closely. I knew I had some white rot, but was hoping it was only on the surface and the wood was sound. Well I went at it with a screw driver, and it is not sound. I am so deflated. The forefoot/gripe is a little discolored, but solid. Obviously If I end up repl...

I will email you pictures today. You have to understand this boat is apart. I do indeed have the aluminum windshield, as well as the side rails that attach to the windshield and extend back torwards the stern. The hull ID # 23359 is burned into the transom wood, and also located on the ajoining tag.

T3 thanks. I did not think about using bandsaw. I will add that to the list of tools I need to buy.

If you check the CD, under 1963 Thompson Chris Craft boats, my boat is the first to come up. I do not think it has a "Sea-V" hull, as the transome area is flatter than the agressive "V" shown in the later catalog drawing.

Think I just ID'd my Thompson

I got my Thompson CD with all of the brochures/catalogs today. My boat is tagged Thompson Boat Co. of New York, Cortland New York. The boat is 19' 4" from tip to tail. It has a Volvo-Penta inboard/outboard, semi free-stading helm, and a revesible passenger seat (front facing or rear facing). No...

So JohnHart, it sounds like it is acceptable to to apply CPES on the inside of the hull, below the waterline. You concern seemed to be cosmetic, not really a performance issue, i.e. CPES trapping moisture and rotting the board from the inside. I have two spots inside my hull which are giving me paus...

How do you fabricate this board?

I don't know the proper name of this board I am going to describe, sorry. On my boat, the sides come up to the deck. There is a "T" intersection where the vertical board meets the horizontal deck board. The deck board hangs over the side/edge of the boat by about an inch or more. There is ...

CPES on side boards?

I have a 20 foot lapstrake Cortland fishing boat with an I/O. This question is not about the plywood bottom, but about the plank sides. I have all of the screws exposed, and the paint stripped and sanded to bare wood. I am thinking of using CPES to soak into the lapstrake planks brushing it on from ...

What is involved in pulling an I/O

I have a 1960 era Cortland 20 foot fishing boat with the Volvo-Penta I/O. I have been in the process of restoring this boat since I was 16. (I am 38  ) I am thinking of how to flip the boat. I have to make some deck repairs first, but am trying to come up with the right plan/order. How involve...
