Jim: I would agree with Andreas, I do not recommend using auto finishes on wood boats. It would probably stick, all though I would worry about using oil based stains and clear sticking, but the reapir-ability would be tough. I would not want to try to get urethane clear off of a wood base. There are...

Andreas:

I have a different project as you know to work on. My brother and his son's decided to take one project off my hands. This is a real nice boat that some one put a lot of money in transom, and new ribs. He needs to replace the keel, and refinish the boat, which is already stripped.

I sprayed the inside of my 62 coaster with schooner varnish, very easy very quick. I purchased a low cost turbin paint spraying system on E-Bay, and used it. I did brush the varnish in the floor areas, just to make sure every thing was covered properly. I am in the auto-body repair buisness, so spra...

1700 XL

Andreas: I hope to be starting a 1700 XL this summer, trying to finish a 63 Chevy first. But I was wondering if anyone new where to purchase the vinyl covering for the decks? I thought of vinyl top material for cars, but trying to match patterns will be tough, I can dye for coloring that is needed. ...

Is the metal for the seats bad? What I see in the pictures just looks aged! Can it not be cleaned up & re-used?

Are these pictures of what you have now? If so why not re-build them?

Nice Coaster!

Sharon:

Would you be able to send a picture or two of the back end of the boat, inside view around the motor area. I have a Coaster just like it that I will be re-building that some one else took apart, I am not sure what it is supposed to look like.

Thanks in advance.

I used Pettit 1959 hard racing bronze on my 62 coaster, it seemed to match properly, and it is a little smoother, slicker than normal bottom paint.

Jim: I was going to use a min-wax type of stain on my 62 coaster, until I asked the questions here from the people that know. I had a color picked out and everything, combination of two colors. But I ended up using a filler stain designed for boats. The biggest thing that changed my mind was uv prot...

Rally

Thanks Andreas for all the hard work you put into getting the rally together, it was a lot of fun.

It was great seeing and talking to everyone, and seeing all the great boats! Hope to do it again.

Scott: I used the molding on my 62 coaster, it worked great. I did not use any silicone or anything to hold the window in. I installed the windows and checked them, they seemed to be real sturdy so I did not seal them. The wood for my windshield was in real good shape also, which helps. I would not ...

Andreas: The product I would use would be a 3M brand 8115. This prduct is used in the autobody industry, on rubber & plastic parts. It is very easy to work with, sandable, and paintable. Then I would refinish with a good urethane automotive finish. Both products are availble at any good automoti...

Eric: I also live in the Chicago area, 40 miles west. I purchased my wood for the keel from Owl hard woods in DesPlaines. They seem to have just about anything you would want, and open to the public. I would recommend flipping the boat, I have a 62 Coaster that I just got back up right, it is not a ...

Thanks Andreas:

Yes I planned on using the nautolex covering. My main concern was such thin wood to be walking on in the rear of the boat. My boat has no back seats, so walking on it and using deck chairs is my concern. But I was also cocerned about using something thicker, added weight.

Thanks
