cleats
Where can I find some small (3 inches to 4 inches) vintage cleats.
I'm looking for either bronze or chrome plated bronze.
I prefer the bullet style.
But I would settle for any type as long as they are all the same.

Wood putty options
I hit an unprotected corner of a village dock and put a big gouge in the hull of my boat. This is way above the water line. I am wondering what would be the best method of repair. I could sand it down seeing as how it is painted but I really never had to good of luck doing that, I would rather fill ...

Re: stain with screws in or out ??
Ok, maybe with stain, but as I stated i'm using stain filler, and I don't see any way, anyone would just use this and varnish over it. It fills the screw slots......... Ok I have a question. Still working on my 1930s Thompson TVT. This boat has several hundred exposed brass screws. If I take all the...

stain with screws in or out ??
Ok I have a question. Still working on my 1930s Thompson TVT. This boat has several hundred exposed brass screws. If I take all the planks, rub rail, cowling etc and screw them down and fair them to where they should be, when I use the stain filler it’s going to get into all the slots of the screws....

Re: Information wanted on Thompson boat trailer
Hey, Any chance you can send me some pics of your TVT ?? I'm trying to restore one that had some bad restorations done on it, so i'm winging it on some things. I could use a pic of the transom inside and out showing the transom braces, and maybe a couple of shots of the side hull either portside or ...

matching new mahogany to old mahogany on upper deck area
I'm working on my 1930 TVT again and am having a problem trying to match the new mahogany repairs to the old mahogany. I can live with the fact that I probably will never get the grain to match but I also am having trouble getting the color to blend in. I think it is African mahogany that I am using...

Re: Removing Decal on Varnish
Hello, you didn't happen to take a picture of this decal did you ?? I have a 1940's TVT Hydroplane Runabout which has a 3.5' varnished deck. Sometime in the past, an owner placed a Thompson Better Built Boats decal on the deck. It did not adhere well, so the owner put wide clear tape(acrylic adhesiv...

I had to replace the step pads on my Lyman, I bought the standard blanks which were a tad bigger and trimmed them on my table saw making the little lip edge and all, they look fine. Like Andreas says Craigs List is a good place to check for just about anything. A neat little trick that will widen yo...

Thompson Sea Green color ...........
Hey, I am restoring a 1930s Thompson TVT which was factory painted Sea Green. I had been unable to locate this exact color anywhere, and there seems to be several variations of the Sea Green, even Kirby Bros paint didn't have it. Luckly to my surprise when I removed the splash rail there was still s...

reworking a shiplap decking
Ok here I go again. I removed all the mahogany 1/4" shiplap decking as to replace the rotted deck ribs. I made my steam box and bent my new white oak ribs and fastened them with brass screws and marine epoxy, I thought everthing was going good and it was, when I started refastening the old ship...
