Hi and welcome, Are you talking about a LAPSTRAKE Thomboy from after 1960 or the 1951-1956 STRIP-BUILT hull Thomboy models? The lapstrake ones come up for sale every now and again. There might even be one advertised on this site in the for sale section. The strip-built Thomboy's are rare. I am aware...

fiberglass only

Hi Ron, Note that the bird is more stylized with more rigid lines. This is from AFTER 1970 when the logo was revised by industrial designer Richard Arbib for Thompson during the Saul Padek reign. So, this is for fiberglass boats only.

Use your band saw, table saw and belt sander and just go at it! A lot of this is just winging it, since we don't have all those jigs as they did in the factory. Eye ball it and try the fit and if it isn't correct go at it again and again and again until it fits!

Ah, but what size is it and does it have the red painted on the depth of the letters in addition to the face of the bird?

Having divets it the hull or humps can cause extreme problems in handling while underway thru the water. Even the slighest "hog" can cause major problems. There have been many posts on this issue on the previous forum here.

Thompson logo

Hi Jim, The "Thompson" boat logo with the bird superimposed over the "T" is currently being registered as a trademark by the Thompson Antique & Classic Boat Rally, Inc. (me). This was the logo used by Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. in the 1950s and 1960s. This trademark expired...

With the hull ID A 21602 M and the serial number plate which says it was made by Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. of Peshtigo, WI, you have the 1,602nd boat made in the year 1962. Bill Luedtke was the builder and "M" was the trimmer (I don't know the who was assigned the code "M", Bi...

What do you mean by "seam sealing"? Are you talking about a sealer such as Smith's CPES or Pettit Old Salem sealer? Or are you talking about caulking between the laps?

I say YES to sealing ALL the wood in and out of the boat with one of the above sealers.

If and only IF this is a boat made by Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. at Peshtigo, WI and not one of the other firms, this is the deciphering of the hull ID A 21892 M: A = builder (in this case Bill Luedtke) 2 = last digit of year of manufacture (could be 1952 or 1962) 1,892 = the 1,892nd boat made in ...

There is no such thing as "Thompson" hardware. The various Thompson boat manufacturers purchased off-the-shelf hardware from firms such as Perko, Kainer, Wilcox Crittenden, etc.... The only thing custom made was the chromed metal hullside logo. Thompson Boat Company of New York, Inc. of Co...

Cruisers wood screws

Have recently been digging thru 1960s issues of "The Boating Industry," a magazine for the trade. Very interesting articles and advertisements. Found an ad from a fastener company proudly proclaiming that Cruisers, Inc. of Oconto, WI was using their company's "Universal Satellite Bras...
