It is possible to scarf a patch into the center of the garboard plank if you absolutely know for sure that the damage is limited to there.

I need to replace a good chunk of my garboard plank from it sitting incorrectly on a trailer for god knows how many years.

The labeling is a good idea. I hadn't really thought about that one. I did separate and bag all the hardware so a sharpie marker should eliminate some head scratching. I do have chipmunks and other rodents that frequent my shed, my Jack Russel loves going in there to look for them. I haven't fully c...

How to properly store partially disassembled boat..

I am going to put our boat back on the trailer and hide it away in the shed until the time comes where I can fix it. I have removed the decking on the front and intend on replacing it with regular 1/4" luan to help the boat hold it's shape. I also plan on staining/varnishing the rub rail area w...

Are you attempting to strip the boat back to bare wood? Definitely want to do that with a chemical stripper. As mentioned lots of times here before, be really careful when sanding so you don't break through the veneer.

Dan, interesting to know your boat had some too. Reassuring!

Thanks guys, I am going to suck it up and buy some marine ply in the next few weeks. Progress will be slow, but still progress right?!

Thanks Joe, I think you are right. I have a feeling I won't be able to get the paint cleaned out of them anyway. Hopefully they are tight. I remember reading about the different head type. Ill keep that in mind if I need to disturb them.

Don's book is great. I read it 2-3x before deciding to go ahead and purchase a wooden boat. It scared me off at first. but now I am actually kind of comfortable with the thing.

Enjoy the read, its a fun one!

EDIT; Happy belated birthday!

Maybe some repairs have been done in the past. They appear to be silicon bronze phillips head screws/nuts. You would never know by looking inside the boat. Very odd.

Ill just plan on using the meranti to fix the garboard planks then. Thanks Andreas.
