I carefully removed and saved old keel, then used it as a template to to grind the angle on keel. 4" DeWalt 10,000 rpm grinder with 30 grit paper did a great job. For scarfing I used a jig in a power slide arm saw. Ribs were completely removed from boat. Call me if I can help 832 473 8928. I ha...

Wider keel. the pictures are in the link below. Link has more than just the 1960 16' Cruisers inc. I did exactly what you are thinking of, it worked great, saved the ribs and made the bottom very stiff and therefore max speed with minimal power equals best economy. I also used the stem shape and rem...

My keel and both sisters total 5 1/4" wide and about 3 1/2" deep. Keel alone is 3 1/2" wide. I started with 4/4 white oak and ran it thur the thickness planner, to just clear it up. That turned out to be about 7/8". I did this for two reasons. My rib ends were soft at the ends, a...

I would laminate the keel with several layers of white oak. Mine ended up being 3 1/2 inches wide. Laminating should creat a straigther keel member than one cut from a single piece. Look at how straigth glue lam beams and plywood are. The keel is almost the most important part of your boat. The stra...

Txcaptdan are you going to the rally? Trailer is best tilted, for protection from the road way. Back in my mechanic days saw several too many skegs broken or rubbed off from lower unit draging pavement. I do use a brace between the trailer and lower unit. This way the motor is not able to bounce aro...

Is your Sea Lancer a 16'?. If so a 40 should push it a good 25 mph. My 1960 Cruisers 16' runs 25 very easily and 28 is tops. I use a 12" pitch prop for alaround use. Wirh my 75 hp Evinrude, it easily runs 32 with a 12" pitch, top has been over 40 mph. All speeds recorded on GPS.

Joe B Engine could have weak spark if coil or consensor is weak. Best to replace condensor, there are cheap. Coil is another matter. Would not hurt to check timing and also point gap. Book says to advance carb a little for slop in linkage. Will engine start if you hold throdle open? Are reed valves ...

Does engine speed make any difference? Is it at idle only?

Could be condensor or maybe coil.

Gear case oil would drip out of prop shaft seal if worn, not exhaust.. A worn out seal under water pump would allow water in. Have you pressure cheched gear case, thats the factory way other determining leaking seals. Most seals will work ok even with groves. Gease gease does not have a clear path t...
