I just picked up an old wooden boat . Here is what I found. The fore deck needs to be replaced , the transom is split and although solid needs attention and should be replaced. The windshield dash & topside are solid (seats etc.). All hardware is there. Should be a learning experience for restor...

The hull is getting ready for paint. Gloss or Semi Gloss for the hull, that is the question. What is everyone using?

I have started to take the screws out around the transom and they seem to be coming out without breaking. I am seriously considering drilling off the heads of the nails; and once I CPES & caulk either putting nails in again next to the old shanks or drilling and screwing. It seems like I would b...

I would like to thank everyone for their guidance during this project. Everything seem so simple when I first envisioned doing the work, anyway I am still having fun. I think I have the outer keel figured out and I am not going to remove the stem. Next problem is the transom. I liked the idea of rem...

Again, thanks for the advice. The stem looks to be made of three pieces approx. 1 1/2' long and are laced together(step cut) and where this step cut or lacing occures there are slotted screws. The rest of the stem used phillips head screws. Also there is a bolt where the outer keel meets the stem an...

That sounds like a good idea. Although part of the stem is below the water line I can see where things could go wrong. What type of caulk and bedding do you use?

I removed the keel today and.... I am not sure if I did it when removing the screws(don't think so) or if they were already broken, but of the twenty-one 3" screws holding it on all but five where broken. A couple were missing the last 1/2" a couple were missing 1 1/4" and the rest we...

Hi, read your problem and wondered if your trailer has any support under the keel? It would seem to me that moving the bunks in toward the center of the boat would make matters worse. But then again I don't pretend to know what I am talking about. My boat while it is on the trailer; the floor board ...

CPES APPLICATION: I have stripped the bottom and ordered the 2 quart kit of CPES from Jamestown Distributors. The person I spoke with at Jamestown made a point to say that it had a very high flash point and not to apply it inside a garage attached to a house. Move the boat outside to apply. Has anyo...
