Re: my 64 sea coaster

H = a code for the guy in the factory that was the leader of the crew that built this particular boat. it is NOT an initial from his name. 4 = last digit of the model year - ie 1964 1501 = the 1,501st boat of all models made that model year. The model year started in September 1963. So just like aut...

Re: keel attachment

You definitely want to use a flexible marine caulk under the keelson before you attached it to the bottom of the boat. Use something like BoatLife Life Caulk. Do NOT use an adhesive such as 3M 5200. Caulk between the two garboard bottom planks before you attached the keelson. Also back butter the bo...

Thompson never painted a "boot stripe" on their lapstrake boats at the factory. FYI

Re: Andreas health report

One year cancer free!

I see the surgeon in a week or so to follow up. I have been seeing the surgeon AND the cancer doc every three months for the past year. Have had a few scares and a number of biopsies done, but NO new cancer.

Re: bottom repair and refinish

Building 5,000 boats annually at the Peshtigo plant was typical. Their peak year they built 8,000 boats! That averages to 30 boats per day! Staggering. The Cortland plant never had the numbers of Peshtigo, but they did make 4,000 one year.

It's been a few years since I have purchased any. Try Jamestown Distributors and West Marine. Maybe Classic Boat Connection at Mankato, MN

Re: bottom repair and refinish

In taking break...i have sanded all ribs and scuffed planks between them. Deck is removed so i can reach down and get within last 3 planks from keelson. Near the bow, starting around 3 planks from the gunnel plank, i found F A or a few E A. stamped into planks? Does anyone know significance? Andrea...

death of Morrie Rhude

Many of you may have encountered my father at the Thompson Boat Rally in past years. He died on Tuesday at the age of 91. In 1951 he started working in Peshtigo across the alley from the Thompson Boat company. His employer was 50% owned by the Thompson family and dad's paycheck was signed by Ray Tho...
