Thanks all Appreciate the advice and picture (Tim). Might try the belt sander approach, ... but bad things happen with a slip of the hand, ... perhaps I am too picky, ... unlike rough framing (which I have done), this you have to treat more like your building a cabinet (which I have also done). Or t...

Hull plank plywood
All Am I correct here? On my 65 offshore the planks below the shear strake seem to be Doug fir and the shear seems different, probably some form of Mahogany. The planking is 7/16 thick. Do I have the species correct? I will need to fix a plank or two or three and want things to look consistent from ...

New transom construction advice needed
All Need to replace my 1965 Peshtigo Offshore. A few questions. First, a little terminology, outboard meaning the transom pieces (horizontal pieces) that you see from the water or outside the boat. Inboard meaning the pieces of the transom (verticle pieces) that face the cockpit of the boat. 1. Any ...

The same 65' Offshore
Andreas I finally found the serial number plate on the recently purchased boat. Again, it a 20' 1" long centerline, 8' beam, 65' Offshore (I am pretty sure) from Peshtigo. The nubmer stamped in the hull wood is: V50890 (but hard to tell if the 5 is a 5 or 6). The metal name plate says: Thompson...

Transom replace, Rib Replace, Refasten, Un-hog,.. Order???
Hello again In my previous post you may have seen that I recently purchased what looks like a 65 Pestigo Offshore. On first inspectioni it looks like I will need to replace: the entire transom (its been partially disasembeled and in bad shape), probably replace most of the ribs or scarf in pieces, m...

All thanks for the info. I spent a little time today cleaning her out a bit more. the previous owner kept all the parts he took off (wood and hardware) and put them in the boat. I DID find the transom piece with the serical number on it. Andreas I will post that question under 'What do I have here'....

Offshore Purchase, Its real this time!!
Hello Everyone Well I finally did it. After many years of searching, and after asking many many questions on this forum, and then mentioning I was boatless (to which you guys were probably wondering why is this jerk asking all the questions), I finally bought a boat!!! I am pretty sure its a Peshtig...

65 WI Offshore??
Hello I just looked at what is believed to be a WI built 65 Offshore. Can you perhaps verify. Unfortunately the transom was partially dis-assembeled and I could not find the metal tag. However I was able to locate the stamp in the transom, however a little suspect as it was hard to read. Here goes V...

Thanks Andreas Would I have an issue in repairing a strake? For example, say I had to put in a patch of say a foot or two of new strake and the new plywood material does not have the overlay. Do you suppose I would see the difference between the 'papered' strake and the patch and the grain would com...
