I believe it is the new automotive style, which as you say was new for '61. The only belt I see is a toothed belt about 1/2 wide to the distributor from a notched surface under the flywheel.

Advice on charging system on 1961 Joohnson 75hp - Fuses

I do not get any reading on my ammeter that the charging system is working on my 75hp Johnson. This has been that way every since I bought the boat, which has been about 7 years. Since I only get out a few times per year and the battery is always charged, it may not even matter that much. However, I...

I like paints from George Kirby.. I use semi gloss white..

On the strakes from the spray rail down, I used four coats of Smith's High Build Epoxy Primer as a moisture barrier coat. Then the Kirby's on top of that.

Trolling motor mounting option for Seacoaster

Three or four years ago, I told a friend that I would like to get a used trolling motor to use as a backup in case my 1961 motor had a problem out in the middle of a lake.... Just something to get me back to a shoreline. He said he knew a guy that stored one in his shed, and the guy happened over on...

Reducing impact of motor weight

As I walk by my Seacoaster several times a day, with the 75 Johnson hanging off the back, I think more and more about why I let that 242lb weight continually push down on the transom and against the trailer bunks. Even the motor service manual says it is best to remove the motor for the off season t...

I always use the cover. unless it is just a few miles to the ramp. I use it for several reasons. It keeps all water out of the boat in the event of rain, so I don't have to worry about rot from the inside.. it protects in case there is a summer hail storm.. it protects against rocks and road debris ...

The Short, Short Trailer

Have any of you seen The Long, Long Trailer?.. It is a fifties vintage classic with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz..... It is good clean fun for all ages. This poor guy is newly married and learns how to pull a trailer . A little over a week ago, on Friday, my wife and I were headed for a week long vac...

Thanks fellas.... I think I may try the tilt feature again on my trailer the next time I launch, but give up on the idea of keeping the hubs dry... It is so smooth to submerge the trailer and float the boat off, with zero rubbing of the hull on the bunks... I have six carpeted bunks. And I also usua...

What is your experience with tilt trailers

I have been totally submerging my trailer (Tee Nee) and floating my boat off to have minimal hull abrasion which has been working great. But I am starting to think that it would be nice to keep the hubs out of the water. I have a 14' aluminum boat on a trailer, that I don't think has been repacked i...

I would stain first... let it dry a week... apply a good coat of CPES.... then a day later start your varnish... I can't remember exactly what I did, but I don't think I thinned where I used CPES.. However, that was with Schooner 96.. the new Schooner Gold, will always need some thinning for all coa...

Where should the seam be on window retention strip

The vinyl/rubber white window strip is pulling away on my windshield and I need to reseat it. I am not sure that I can stretch it (maybe heat it a little) to make it all the way around... If I do have a 1/2" gap, where should that be...? Top or bottom. Right now, I have it at the bottom so it i...

Evan.. thanks for your comments... I decided to get another wheel... I get load range C so I had to order it (Northern)... I may still try running the old one, but it is easy enough to keep an eye on it and change at my typical McDonalds stop on a vaca... I always feel the hubs and check things ever...

Flat spot on tire

I just pulled the wheels on my trailer to check and grease the bearings. When I replaced the wheel I gave it a spin, and noticed that the tire was a little deformed... that is, a flat spot that lumped its way around. I didn't look that closely on the other side, so maybe it was that way too. My trai...

Hi Dan.. I made a post or two about the new Schooner a few months back. I have not used it yet but called Interlux and talked to a guy who has. They believe it is a better formulation, but you need to thin with 333 Brushing liquid. I suspect that the bulk of the criticisms were placed by folks tryin...
