Power lift for that engine, was very common, one unit fit engines from 1960 to 1968, 60,65,75,80, 85,90, and 100hp. I actually bought mine as NOS from my local dealer North Shore Marine in Houston 713 453 6314, 5 years ago.
Almost any old dealler should have one somewhere.

1960 Evinrude Lark II Crash test
Hit a very solid stump or log today with with Evinrude 40 Lark on my 1960 cruisers Inc, 16' 202 at about 22 mph. Engine flew up and I thought it was going to break off and cartwheel into the boat. Turns out I sheared a pin, prop looks very good, almost unharmed, lost black plastic cap off prop. Engi...

Sounds like a neat project I am a radical, but I would flip the boat and disasemble it, then reassemble it using olds parts for paterns. These boats come apart very easily as they are bolted together. I believe it's easier to 100% rebuild rather than piece mill each little problem. If the transome i...

It can be done. You might be able to reuse most lapstrakes. There are several boats under going rework at present on site. Here's a link to mine www.aerialimaging.net/john

What Is A Fair Price For A New 16' Cruiser's Today
Thinking out loud, if a completly new Cruiser's or Thompson, say the 16' Sea Coaster, could be duplicated, what would be a market price? Would $20,000 be to much? $10,000? Material cost is probably $3000. Finding good fir plywood might be the only problem. How many could you sell in a year, @ 20K, 1...

Just got a quote from a local wooden boat restoration specialist for a complete windshield assembly for my Cruiser's Inc project - - - - $3,500 unvarnished. 50 hrs of labor at $65/hr and $250 materials. When I think about it, 50 hrs sounds very reasonable and with overhead etc, a shop rate of $65/h...

The flushing device was made by Tempo. I found a picture of one for a 40hp on ebay, it's been sold, but picture can be found by doing an advanced search of completed items. key words are vintage tempo flusher 917. Sorry I could not copy it for you. 100 hp model was slighly bigger, should be a lot ar...

What engine was orginally on the boat, would be a good place to start, do you still have it, how did it do? Horse power ratings mean little, as the real punch from a given amount of hp has changed over the years. Prop shaft power now compared to crankshaft in 58 and props that deliver more thrust fo...

Brain I did own a 1968 100 Evinrude, put better than 500 hours on it, in the 2 1/2 years I owned it. It was the first new outboard I purchased. I was a junior in high school at the time, lots of sking time. I was an certified factory trained Evinrude mechanic in high school and under grad school. Th...

It's not so much the weight, but the speed a given amount of power will produce. Old engine were rated at the crank shaft, new at prop, there is a 10 to 15% difference. New engines can weight a bunch, old engines were light in comparison. Also 85 was about as big a engine that was available in 1957,...

How much sealant was still holding, when you removed your lapstrakes, mine was maybe 20%, but probably closer to 10%. I used 5200, zero problems with leaks, after 6 years Biggest problem I had with 5200 was excess sealant, sqeezing from between lapstrakes. Started out with white 5200, changed to bro...
