waterski repair

I know that this is a little off topic but I recently purchased a pair of vintage waterskis made by the Thompson boat co. to go with the sea-lancer that I am restoring. One of the rear boots is torn and I was wondering if anyone knows of a source for replacement or of a glue that would work well for...

gas storage

I think if you add stabilizer and make sure the tank is full you will be OK.

steaming ribs

I just went through the same thing and had the same trouble. I found that the key was making sure the whole bend is a curve. At first the way I was doing it resulted in a right angle bend. I bent mine in the boat with the bottom off. I placed multiple bridging pieces of wood about 1 inch wide along ...

motor for 1958 sea lancer

Does anyone know what the original motor on a 1958 sea lancer would have been? Thanks, Jim

steaming ribs

Well after cracking too many ribs I finally figured out that when I was bending the ribs in the boat instead of maintaining a smooth curve they were breaking off at the clamp because the wood does not like making sharp turns (right angle). Jim

steaming wood for ribs

I just started to bend ribs for my sea lancer. I am using 1/2 in white oak and steaming for 1/2 hr or so and each time the rib cracks a little. Any suggestions? Is a little cracking on the surface OK? Would soaking before steaming help? Would soaking in my hot-tub be a good idea?(I mean the ribs). T...

removing planks

I have taken off the two large bottom planks from my 1957 sea lancer in the process of replacing them (due to some rot) In the process the adjacent planks were damaged at the lap where the bedding compound pulled wood away when separating them. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to remove wi...

flipping boat

I just recently flipped my 1958 Sea Lancer using the method described in the book "how to restore your wooden runabout", by Danenberg. I got just about everything I needed on E-bay. Instead of a pipe I used a 2x6 with 4 pillow block bearings with two short pipes in between each pair mounte...

That is a big help. It makes a lot of sense to use scarf joints. Thanks, Jim

hull plank replacement

I am most likely going to replace the two bottom planks on my 1958 sea lancer. It looks like the planks on the boat are made of one piece that is as long as the boat. I dont know of any place to get marine plywood that long and assume that I will have to use two or more separate pieces. How have oth...
