Dan, there is a VERY pronounced dent in the rear where the back of the bunk was on the trailer. I need to get it flipped and pull a string from the bow back there to see if its just a dent in the rear or if it is a full fledged hog. I am playing it safe and assuming I am going to be scarfin'

Dan; Thanks for helping me stay on the right track. I was getting a bit overwhelmed. You said; I would refinish and wire under decks before applying decks! Just to clarify, you mean do the refinishing work before I replace the top decking right? The delamination looks like one layer. I will have to ...

Garboards secured with phillips/flat screws? Fir/mohogany?

Alright, laying under my boat last night admiring the dent in the garboard planks I noticed some paint had flaked off a screw head or two. I picked at them with a pick tool for some reason and saw some were phillips heads!? Whassup with that? Also, I am going to replace the rear 4' of my garboards. ...

Nice cart you made there. I use an engine stand, but since the damn merc's are so top heavy it's not incredibly stable. I may add some ballast. I rolled it into the corner, a good shove and it would go head first!

Time to start a restoration thread 63' sea lancer

Alright guys, I have managed to clear enough stuff off my plate to get a creeping slow start on the boat. I know it's not much but it's a heck of a lot further than I have gotten before. Observation 1- Removing the aluminum rub rail trim sucks. I am also not looking forward to re-polishing it (I do ...

Larry, my first thought would be either an angle grinder or belt sander if you could get it in there.

Thanks for the info John, I remember reading about that. My buddy has a thickness planer and I am sure he would give them a light shave for me!

My transom doesn't have any rot that I can see, which is good news at least. I guess Ill find out when it comes off.

Okay thanks Andreas! I knew he had a wood boat, not sure why. You likely mentioned it. I was also happy to see west systems epoxy in stock!

For some reason, it almost seems like it would/will be easier. I won't have to fight gravity to get it back in there. Andreas, do you still recommend putting a layer of marine ply in the center and putting the mahogany planking on the outside of it? I got my plywood price list today. McCormick has i...

Scarfing a strake for repair..

I need to scarf in a piece to fix the last 3-4" of one of the strakes of my boat. The PO punched a hole in it somehow and screwed a backing block to it and packed it full of stuff. I cleaned out the hole and am curious, is there any way at all to replace just the end without removing it from th...

Transom repair with boat upright, bad news bears?

I want to remove the transom of my boat, plane, reassemble etc.. since it is deteriorating like everyone else's. My question is whether or not I can do this with the boat sitting upright, or if it should be upside down and secured down tightly to avoid racking the boat. I need to do garboard plank r...

I don't see why not. You will have to do some research regarding parts etc.. but I am sure it's available. I am not sure how it would work having to trim out two different motors... but it's been done before.
