Re: Varnish Cure Before Launch?
hard to answer the # of coats question..... how thick were the coats, do you have any high or low spots etc.
As for the sticker, I'd wait at least two weeks after the final coat feels completely cured - nothing but a gut feel behind that answer

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w35/thegammas/20170709_185005_zps22tdjqzs.jpg I've started this seasons work on my Sea Lancer. Currently refastening the hull, which consists of tightening all the Silicon bronze plank bolts/nuts (not screws) and replacing all the plank to frame screws. Not sure i...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
I spoke too soon! The boat has been in the hot garage for a week now and the hook is back. I wish I had taken a picture of the 'no hook' so I could convince myself that it truly was mostly gone last weekend.....

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Last weekend my son and I brought the boat back into the garage from around back where it has been since November or so, under the deck, covered, sitting on a dirt floor. Even though life is busier than ever, I hope to make some progress on it this summer. If you read back through this thread you wi...

Hey Buck - where are you located. If you haven't started cutting her apart I may be interested in trying to save her.

Re: 1963 17' Thompson Garage Find
Hey Robert, We own very much the same boat, built by the Cortand New York Thomspon company (yours has all the tale tale Cortland features) What year is it? And do you have the original seats by chance? I have never been able to get a picture of the seats that would (could) have come with my boat. Mi...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Problems in paradise - I was moving the boat around back (so I can park my car in the garage during the winter) and with out going into details, it slipped off the trailer dolly and slammed to the ground and bent the main beam of the trailer. Can it be bent back straight without weakening it? http:/...

Re: 1957 Cruisers 16' hull# 7 G5423
Ha! It's so true! The braces, the blocking, the lifting brace in the garage attic. I think I have spent more time playing with things around the boat, vs. working on it. Right now I am building a shed for it under the deck and sun room out back so I can park my car in the garage for the first time i...

Re: 1957 Cruisers 16' hull# 7 G5423
I would replace the transom first before disassembling the rest of the structure so as to help maintain the shape of the boat. Thing is, you never know what you will find when you start to peel back the layers. So perhaps build a brace that you can put in right after you remove the transom to replac...

Re: 58 sea coaster keel rebuild
Mine came apart like this; Apologies if it assumes too much (or little) about what you know already. This also assumes our boats are constructed the same or similar. - Stripe the paint off the bottom of keep cap (the piece on the outside of the hull on the bottom) down to the wood. Then sand it. Thi...

Re: 58 sea coaster keel rebuild
Greetings. I have a cortland boat as well and have disassembled the outter keel etc. There are indeed as noted above a number of long screws in addition to the carriage bolts holding the outter keel on. Take a look at my thread (bottom rebuild ( previously.... for pictures and verbose commentary on ...
