she leaks like a sieve - Caulk?
I floated my 62 Custom Sea lancer for the first time since I owned it. As I suspected it would, the boat leaked, but more than I expected (I made sure the venturi plug was tight in). I let her float for about 30 minutes (taking pictures of course) . Before I pulled it, there was about 2 inches of wa...

step pads - catalogs
by chance does your catalog show the Customer Sea lancer from the Cortland factory, and if so, any good pictures of the interior? I will be getting some cat's on CD-Rom from dragonflyconoe (i think that's the name) and if yours came from there, i'd be interested in how complete are they? hows the qu...

your offshore
Sounds like you have a lot of work to do - but sounds like fun!! I have a Custom Sea Lancer that looks similar to the offshore (Andreas is probably cringing right now what with all my rookie commentary on these boats). I'd be interested in a picture of your interior, especially the drivers seat. I h...

Thompson Step pads
An excellent point - I'll be getting a CD-Rom of the brochures - If it shows your boat with steps pads, I'll send you a picture if I can.

step pads
Hey John - I have a 1962 Custom Sea Lancer. The forward edge of the step pads are located 26 inches from the stern. The pad itself is 9 inched or so. I've only onwed the boat a few weeks, and it's my first boat. But I can assume that having those pads in place will keep at least a few folsk from fal...

Since we are on the subject, what of tattered plywood?
At the extreme stern of my 1962 Custom Sea Lancer (Thanks Andreas!) under the transom, the plywood bottom has some chips out of it. I'd doscribe it as 'frayed'. Is there a product that I can use to properly and effectively patch it? Something akin to Bondo on a car? I too have some leakes. I discove...

go for a modern engine
Read all of the following with the understanding that I just bought my first boat. If your not into classic motors, I would recommend a modern motor. The classics are fun, highly cool, and will certainly look better on the boat. But they can be finicky, more complex in some ways. Service shops are r...

You are correct! Of course....
Thank You Andreas!! I double checked and indeed the tag says "Thompson Boat Company of New York, Inc" and "Cortland NY". I read your reply correctly, I have the Custom Sea Lancer. Any idea where I could find a brochure of the interior? I'd really like to replace that horrid drive...

My New Thompson - but what is it?
I recently bought this 1962 Thompson from upstate New York. I'd like to take advantage your expertise to verify the model and year I have. Here are the data points you ask for on the Web: Length: Approx 209 inches, or 17 feet Beam (widest at about midship): approx 80 inches, or about 6.6 feet Hull n...
