Re: Is it worth fixing?
Love all the canoes and rowing skiffs on the racks in the one photo! The windshield on the Thompson Boat is not factory original. Someone did a very nice job of making that windshield frame tho. The vinyl covering on the deck is not factory original either. If she is about 18' centerline length, she...

Re: Is it worth fixing?
The "WNZ..." code is a state of Washington assigned code. It has absolutely nothing to do with the boat manufacturer and it is meaningless in trying to determine the year of the boat. I have no clue what WOGP..." indicates. Again, it is nothing form the manufacturer.

Re: Is it worth fixing?
The rotten wood needs to be removed and replaced with proper, new wood. White oak heartwood (no sapwood) for the keelson, stringers, steam bent ribs, stem, and floor framing. Plywood hull planking is Douglas fir. It might have a paper overlay on the painted face. Transom is Philippine mahogany. Do N...

Re: Is it worth fixing?
Welcome aboard! First thing you should do is verify what you have. Find the HULL ID stamped into the wood of the transom, inside the boat. Also find the SERIAL NO. on the small rectangular builder's tag. They are different. These can be used to determine the year. Is there a metal capacity tag from ...

Re: Bottom Rebuild (prev. 'At a cross road')
Spray rails on Cortland built boats were painted. Not sure when they started to do that. Red and blue were used on certain models for the spray rail. White on others.

Re: Unidentified bow light
I do not know the brand. Go to www.fiberglassics.com and the Glassic Library section. There is an area of old boat hardware brochures that have been scanned and posted. You may find it there.
Typical suspects will be Kainer, Wilcox-Crittenden, Perko, Jervis, etc....

Re: transom finish
NO paint on the end grain of the plywood planking at the transom. Everything on the transom was stained and varnished originally.

Re: pink!! really?
See the colour chart from Pettit for 1957. Thompson Bros. Boat used a number of these pastel tones as standard for the boats that year. Look at the '57 Thompson brochure to determine which colours were utilized. George Kirby, Jr. paint Co. of New Bedford, Mass can match almost anything. They most li...

Re: outer keel/limber holes
The outer keel is screwed thru the planking and into the keelson Screws will not interfear with the limber holes, the screws do not go into the ends of the ribs. There also will be two carriage bolts at the junction of the keel and outer stem. Putty over the countersunk screws. The original was whit...

Re: outer stem
I second the vote for 3M 4200 at the stem gap. Escutcheon (spelling??) pins (little itty bitty nails) are used to install the mahogany half round trim at the lower side of the shearstrake At the bow end and stern end, it gets screwed and the screw head is countersunk a wee bit and puttied before sta...
