Re: Treating Chrome for storage
John, I would think your idea would work. There are chrome polishes available at automotive stores that would also work. Some of these contain wax which would seal the pores in the old chrome. I think these would also work. I have not used anything when storing my boats, but have used the chrome pol...

Re: gale engines
shaun, Most of the motors would have been sold by the Dealers and not Thompson. What ever motor manufacturer the dealer handled is what would have been sold with the boat. So as far as what make motor to use would depend on what you want on your boat or what you can find of that vintage. Your Gale m...

Re: Looking for leaks
Shaun, First, I would check for any rotted wood before putting into the water. Use a ice pick or similar device to probe the wood to see if it is soft. If soft it need to be replaced. Check the keel, the inner keel, know as the keelson, and ribs for any sign of rot. Take care of all these before doi...

Rong,
Nice job looks good.
A suggestion for bending the planking on the curve like what you did here is to start at the bow and work your way back toward the stern. In this way you have the long length of the plank to use to help bend the plank to conform to the curve.
Good Luck,
Phill

Re: Items found in box
AndyM, It would have nothing to do with the boat other then possibly a club that the former owner belonged to. Not knowing the area of the country the boat came from it is hard to determine the meaning of the flag. What area of the country did you purchase the boat from? With that info someone might...

Re: fuel tank location
Steve,
I see no problem with mounting the gas tank in the bow. It will help distribute the weight evenly and it will give you better top end speed.
Go for it!

Phill

Re: First launch concerns
SlimJim, Welcome to wood boat ownership. With a boat being out of the water that many years you will most likely want to put a few coats of varnish on the interior, unless the former owner had done so. Also exterior should be looked at to see if there are any open seams that need to be filled and pa...

Stew, You might want to look at the vinyl letter decals that are available thru a few different site on the net. They are a lot easier to do and one advatange is when it comes time to revarnish you can remove it and get a new one to put over the new finish. Letter styles and layouts are numorus and ...

I agree with Andreas. The colors look good and the restoration is coming along nicely. Can not wait until you get it done and post photos.

Pirtside, You can try a place that handles award trophys. They make up the plastic plates for trophys, not sure how much they would cost, they will make almost any size you want. Also you can try Kendor Marine in Franklin, WI they have a lot of the old stuff as this is what their specialty is old ob...

Re: 1960 Sea Lancer
Lockhartia, I would check to see what the cost to get the older motor back into working condition would be then make your decision. You might want to hang on to the old motor if you plan on taking the boat to boat shows just for originality. Depending on how fast you want to putter around will depen...
