Varnish the top first, or paint the bottom first?

Varnish the top first, or paint the bottom first?

Just wondering!

Risk dripping paint on the fresh varnish? or risk dripping varnish on fresh paint and paint on bare wood.. so on and so forth?

Seems like it would be much easier to varnish below the rubrail with the boat upside down.

I paint first then varnish. Easier to get varnish drips or splatter off of paint than the other way around. I also mask off.

Thanks Andreas, that was my plan. Just wondered if I was on the right track.
