In need of a steering wheel

Post by TheCaptain »

Looking for a period correct steering wheel/system (with pulley's and such) for a '59 Cruisers Inc Seafarer. It's a 16' boat. I'm keeping an eye on Ebay, CL, etc but any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Captain,

It is a ways from you but there is a place here in Wisconsin that handles a lot of old obsolete boating parts and hardware they might have something.

The outfit is Called kendor Marine their phone number is 414-421-4370. If you give them a call and tell them what you are looking for they may just have it.

The wheel assembly for a cable system is what you need to ask for.

The pulleys are available thru West Marine and most local marine dealers. What you need to look for are pulleys for use with small boat anchor systems. They are used when you have a remote anchor rope reel loacted amidships and the rope is run long the side of the hull up to the bow. They are genreally sold in a blister pack with 2 pulleys and 2 guides. The cable is available at most big box stores. It is plastic coated aircraft cable. Generally available in regular or stainless steel.
The springs are available at most hardware and big box stores as these are used for the limiter chain on screen doors.
The cable clamps are available thru West Marine and might even be in some hardware stores also.

Good Luck,

Phill
