1941 Thompson Snipe Sailboat For Sale (NY)

Post by JohnR »

I am corresponding with the owner of a 1941 Snipe sailboat (15'-6") that was built by Thompson/Cortland. NY. It is a measured Snipe and has a SCIRA registration number #4105, and Snipe class documentation. It is located in eastern NY state, and was raced in a Snipe fleet in the Adirondack region. It is quite rare as most Snipes built by Thompson were produced at the Peshtigo, WI plant. If you are interested, contact me and I will put you in contact with the owner. The boat is in good but not original condition, the deck/cockpit appear to have been been redone at some point to a later configuration, perhaps by NY Snipe builder Nearing Emmons (a guess, not verified).

This boat has now been donated to the Finger Lakes Boating Museum (Geneva, NY) as part of their collection. They now have two Snipe sailboats in their collection - #4105 by Thompson (1941) and #8048 by Emmons (1950).
