45 HP Royal Scott / McCulloch

Post by Busted Knuckles »

Have any of you all run a 45 HP on your 16-17 ft Thompson. I am debating one for mine after deciding that the 110 and 115 6cyl Mercs were just to much and way overkill for what I am looking for. I saw the post about the 40 HP in the Cruisers vs the 70/5? Anything to look out for with the McCulloch?

A 45 Scott is not what you need for day to day use. A 40 works well on my 16, but I question how good it would be on a 17'

Sorry I did not see you question on the 110/115 question. The newer 1980 90 Merc is same 99 cubic inch block and same weight, so is the 125,135,140 and 150. All would work, just don't get on the gas. If you went to a Merc the 80 hp 4 cyl would be a good bet. Changing prop will do nothing and will probably be harder on the transom sue to higher thrust available.
