Offshore powerplant R&R

I have a 1967 20' Offshore camper Pestigo built. Has anyone had any experience or advice in replacing my entire propulsion package with a newer model or a different manufacturer in my boat. I currently have the original early OMC I/O with the 250 hp V6 and electronic shift installed now. Parts are getting hard to get with some no longer available. My units will have to be rebuilt or gone thru before I reinstall them just for my peace of mind if nothing else. I realize that replacement will be very expensive, but hopefully the boat will be then good for another few decades with few problems. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Don
