motor for 1958 sea lancer

Post by jim »

Does anyone know what the original motor on a 1958 sea lancer would have been? Thanks, Jim

The boats did not come with motors installed at the factory. So, whatever motor(s) the dealer sold could have been installed on the boat at the dealership. Or an owner could have put his/her own motor on the boat.

That left it wide open for the boat to have any type of motor and HP. People sometimes upgraded motors to higher HP or newer models as the years passed.

In 1958 the largest HP that was made by OMC (Evinrude & Johnson) was 50 HP. Mercury had a higher HP motor. The Sea Lancer was rated for up to 85 HP in 1958.

I have twin 1957 Johnson 35 HP motors on my 1957 Peshtigo built Sea Lancer. I am currently restoring a 1959 Sea Lancer (also Peshtigo built) that has a 1959 Evinrude 50 HP on her transom.
