Looking Good! May I ask how you stripped the old paint and how you got a color to match? Thanks

Went over them with a DA(Air powered dual action sander). Took about 10 minutes per hood. Shot them with self etching primer for good adhesion to the aluminum.
Used single stage automotive paint with hardener. Sprayed them outside in my drive way.
Both the hoods were original factory paint and they didn't even match each other due to ageing and exposure, ect.
Pulled off the wide chrome trim and found an area of the gold that had never seen the sun. Buffed it out and then matched the paint to that.
Most paint stores now have a system that reads the paint sample and either comes up with a current formula that matches or creates a new formula.
I took that formula the formula that it came up with and we adjusted it slightly. Is it a perfect match to the original. Who know's

As far as I was able to find out that original formula no longer exsists. On the NY marine web site (That sells Javelin Gold paint ) they talk about how they came up with their
colors and they did it the same way as I did.
It is an interesting color as it seems to look different depending on the angle as well as the light. But hey. They match each other. Working towards mounting them on the boat this week.

One last comment about the color match Jall.
The other thing I did was to use the gold background of the emblem as a guide as well.
You can see in the one pic that it is a fairly close match.
