Coil conversion?

Has anyone converted their two cycle outboard coils to automotive-type coils? I have a 1959 McCullough Flying Scott. It has three coils and I keep having issues with one or more cylinder "missing". I saw a motor similar to mine a few years ago and it had the automotive coils on it. That boat and its motor have been sold and I can't find the guy who did this conversion. I may have scored the last NOS McCullough coil a couple of years ago. Thanks for any help.

John,

Have you tried contacting anyone from the Antique Outboard Motor Club? I would think someone there would have an answer. I just received my latest issue and note a guy by the name of Doug Penn is a contact for old outboard motor info and parts. His email address is: douglas.penn@gmail.com. Give him a try.

Good Luck,

Phill
