1958 Mercury 78A

Post by TreelineIII »

does anybody have experience with this engine. I have been told this has been called a Dockbuster. I presume this is because it has a direct drive. I have not tried to start it but I was told that it had work a season or two ago. I presume it needs a going over to get it going. Not sure what this would cost or if I should make the investment in an engine called a Dockbuster.

Mercury 78A are good engines, but everything has to be just right.

If you keep it or not is your decision. For show 78A would probably get more interest points, than a Johnson or Evinrude, since they are so common. For ease of use, Johnsons and Evinrude are hard to beat.
