Just purchased and parked '65 Thomboy in driveway. Plan to continue to survey needs. I purchased Don Danenberg's books already.
What I know now: Decay at ends of several frames at keelson. Decay noted at ends of both top planks at transom. Transom/planking connection requires refastening. Need to rebuild transom. Transom pulled away from planking in couple areas. Windshield frame loose and cracked in three areas. Noted repair at stem at water line.
My plan is to do a complete restoration as required.
I plan to determine if motor is operational prior to removing. Once evaluated it will be removed and stored.
All hardware to be removed after numerous pictures and measurements.
Remove windshield to repair later.
Brace hull @ interior and flip over.
Strip hull and evaluate for decay and replace damaged areas.
Stem and chime unknown condition.
Replace outer stem (steam bent heart white oak).
Paint hull and flip upright.
Rebuild transom.
Replace decking.
Rebuild windshield and install.
Install hardware.
Install motor.
Register.
Water test.
Go for ride.
Questions:
From this description what else am I likely to find?
Should I just go ahead and refasten hull and 3M 5200 the laps?
Plan to rebuild transom with original wood using 5200. Thoughts?
Looking for suggestions for boat support while upside down.
Present decking covered with vinyl. Plan to replace decking and varnish. I have been told this was an option in '65. Thoughts?
Looking for advice on upholstery replacement. I've been quoted $800 already for fold down seats and jump seats at back. Fair Price?
Plan to recondition trailer. Replace rollers with bunks.

What about the order of replacing frames vs. strakes? For some of my frames, I'll just need to scarf in a short piece at the keel to repair the rot. Some, however, need to be steamed because they're broken at the turn of the bilge/side.

Seems like you need the frames to shape the planking, and the planking to shape the frames....
