Peshtigo '66 Thomboy hull fasteners?

Post by Woody »

What is the name of the fasteners used to secure plank-to-plank?
What size are the fasteners?
Is the nut just a regular nut? Order separately?
Best place to purchase? Jamestown Dist?

What issues may I have when refastening the original planking?
Should I consider larger fastener?
Any other direction for refastening is appreciated.
Thanx

Sometimes called Stove Bolt or more commonly called Machine Screw & Nut. Yes, get the nuts from the same source as the bolt and make sure they are the same threads. Brass or silicon bronze.

Size: No. 6 (32/40). Length will vary. Buy longer ones and nip off the excess from the inside when finished (that's how they did it in the factory). I put a dab of caulk in the hole before inserting the bolt.

If you are using existing holes, I'd go a size or two up from No. 6.

I have found 'em at Home Depot believe it or not! Jamestown Distributors is probably a good choice. I get most of my screws, etc from www.boltdepot.com
