Replace ribs ?

Post by JALL »

If ribs are dark where they meet at the keel do they have to be replaced. I have seen pictures of the boat but not in person. The hull and ribs are darker in color at the joint ( about 3 inches up on each side ). I'm new r to this and need some input. Thank You

Discoluration is typically indication of some type of problem. Could be decay. Could be oil stained from leaky fuel tank.

It is a very typical for decay to occur at ribs ends where they meet the keelson on these types of boats.

If you look at the boat, poke 'em with a screwdriver or awl or ice pick. Poke at some good, sound wood first to gauge the apparent bad.
