What is the orgin of the mahogany used in the 30s ??

what is the orgin of the mahogany used in the 30s and if it wasn't african how close would this be to a match ??

I will assume Thompson Boat used Philippine mahogany in the 1930s.

Unless you can take a sample of the "mahogany" in question to a real wood expert I doubt that you will ever know the exact type of wood. I did a little search thru some reference material I have on hand and quickly came to the conclusion that "mahogany" is a term thrown around very loosley. Many of the tropical woods refered to as mahogany are not even of the broad classification of true mahogany. this is especially true of the so called Phillipine varities. It seems that the true Mahoganys come fron central America and west Africa. My reference book had 4 pages of latin this and that in explaining the various species. Unless we know utherwise, my guess would be that Thompson got theirs from the nearest (cheapest) location... Central America.
