gripe repair 60 Cruisers 17'

I was just given a 1960 Cruisers Inc. 17. The gripe has some rot in it where it meets the keelson. Is it possible to remove the knee and gripe without removing garboards. Also is the keel removable? There seems to be a leak at the joint of the outer stem and keel. any suggestions welcomed.[/img]

You have to use a host site for the pics such as photobucket.
I believe that the Cruisers Inc keel is removeable like the Thompsons.
Ther are some Cruisers Inc owners on this forum and hopefully they will check in.

Yes, you may remove the outer keel. It is screwed from the bottom into the planks and keelson. Remove any metal trim, sand off the paint to reveal the puttiy filled screw holes, dig out the putty, back out the screws and it will probably fall off. There may be a couple of carriage bolts at the junction of keel and stem.

This is a typical spot for leaking. Remove, clean up everything, replace bad wood if needed, seal, prime paint, recaulk, and slap it back on.

Doubt you can remove the gripe without removing the garboard planking.
