Is there a reason not to use stainless screws in areas where they are going to be covered. I understand using brass / silicon bronze in areas where they will be visible. Just curious as stainless are much more accesible along the gulf coast.

GulfCoastThompson,

Only problem I know of is stainless fasteners if sealed from air will rust. Other then that I see no problem.
Have you tried Jamestown supply for fasteners?

Good Luck,

ditto.

From what I undersatnd, in order for stanless steel to remain stainless, it must be exposed to the atmosphere. If it's all covered up under putty or a wood bung, it is no longer exposed and it will corrode.
