Transom finish

It may be personal preference but I wanted to check if anyone knew exactly how the paint was done at the transom.
On this little cedar strip boat the ends of the strips were stained the color of the transom. I have seen photos of boats that had the strips painted the hull color.
Can anyone tell me how it may have been done at the factory?
