I am planning on varnishing with Schooner Varnish.

I also have a new can Circa 1850 exterior varnish.

Could the 1850 be used for build coats on the interior of the hull and followed up with the Schooner Varnish over top?

Thanks

gaff,

I do not see any problem other then if you are looking for the golden hue in the varnish I am not sure if Circa 1850 will give that to you. I only saw where they refer to it as a clear varnish.

Good Luck,

Hi Phill

I do want a darker hue. Thats why I went to the Schooner varnish. I was not sure if I could use the 1850 for a couple of base coats and then finish off with several coats (6) of Schooner and still get the darker hue I am looking for.

BTW on your 12 footer do you have knees connecting the stringer and transom along with the main knee at the center of the transom?

Thanks

Steve,

The 12 footer only has one knee, approximately 1-1/2" thick, in the ceter of the tramson.

Back to the varnish thing. I would think if you used the 1850 as a caouple seal coats, thinned about 25% then changed to the Schooner it should not effect you golden hue.

Good Luck,

Phill
