happy birthday to US! my 1957 15' thompson sea coaster did not come with a deck and only remnants of king planks. can anyone tell me what the original thickness of the decks were on this model? also, it appears in some pictures that the covering boards are of a different material. were these originally the same as the deck? thanks...

Well, my '57 Peshtigo built Sea Lancer has 3/8 inch thick plywood deck and covering boards. Probably the same for her little brother, the Sea Coaster.

I would assume that plywood was also utilized for the gunwale covering boards on the Sea Coster. By 1959 on the Sea Lancer the decks remained plywood but covering boards were solid Philippine Mahogany lumber, not plywood.

Okume or Meranti marine plywpood are suitable substitutes for the original Philippine Mahogany plywood. It is sold today in metric thickness and you cannot find exact 3/8 inch. Use the nearest size.

Hope this helps.
