Source for the Vinyl that seats the windshield

Post by Paulo »

I am getting ready to put the windshield back on my 1960 Seacoaster and need to replace the vinyl gasket that seats the windshield. This gasket is between the window frame and the deck. I looked at the Wefco site and didn't see a good match and call Rich Gausselin, who advertises here, and he no longer carries it/is able to get it. He was having it made in China and the factory stopped making it. Does anyone have a source for this gasket or am I simply out of luck?
Thanks in advance.

Wefco has an exact match: #3638

Apparently a "fender beading" for old VW Beatle autos is a close match, manufactured by EMPI Standard Off-Road, Part # 00-6734-0

For future reference: The cost is $3.00 per foot plus postage and it comes in either white or black. Ordering over the phone was easy as can be. I called Monday, they are making it Tuesday (they are doing a white run), and will ship it out by the end of the week.
Again thanks to Andreas for pointing me in the right direction.

Paul,

I think I am in the similar boat as you. Trying to find the vinyl molding to hold in the windows on 1965 Sea Mate. Is that what you were using the EMPI Standard Off-Road, Part # 00-6734-0 for?

If so, how did it work?

Thanks,

Todd

The window glass retainer can be obtained form Tom Koroknay aka Dr. Lyman in Ohio. www.lymanboats.com or something like that.

Rich Gausselin in Chicagoland apparently is all out of the stuff he was selling some time ago.

The EMPI part number was for the stuff that went under the windshield frame between it and the deck plywood.
