Fairing products

I need to replace the original fairing material at the planks and the stem on my Sea Lancer. Not sure if we should be using a caulking or a fairing compound. After doing some reading from different product manufacturers I'm sure my life will be complete if I just buy a tube of everything.

So, what have you used and been satisfied with?

Thanks for the replies,

Bruce

Caulking and Fairing compound are to totaly different things. Caulking good for sealing plank edges and some cracks and most joints or under your keel.
If you are looking to smooth an area or to take out slight dips in the planks use a 2 part Marine grade Fairing compound. After it drys can be sanded then painted.
3M is as good as any. Many auto parts stores can get it for you.
Truthfully to me it looks, smells and works just like regular old bondo but by adding the "Marine Grade" label to it they can charge more.
