fairing

Post by andre lafrance »

I've begun fairing the hull on my '57 sea coaster. with all the screw holes filled with famo wood filler and using danenbergs suggestion of vertical marks along each plank, I've used #80 grit sandpaper to begin - the hull had been striped to bare wood before I began. danenberg also suggests jumping 20 grits. I like the idea, but how far should I go before I seal the hull with cpes? #100 then to 120, etc. thanks for any thoughts on this ...

100 or 120 grit. Just use your hands to feel and judge for yourself. You do not want it soooo smooth that the paint will not grip.
