Launched 20' Seacamper today

Post by txcaptdan »

Finally she is wet! The weather here has taken a turn back to spring in Texas 75- 80 I had to drive to oposite side of lake to find ramp with water but she floated off, took on a couple gal water and swelled right up. Engine fired right up in a cloud of blue smoke and fell into a fairly nice idle.
I ran her down the lake and she seemed to ride straight and level. I must have a much too tall prop on her right now a 10 1/4 X 10 she would only rev to about 3500 tops-guess but planed up, but you could tell engine was not near fully reved.
I have a 90hp Johson on a 20' Seacamper does anyone know what prop I should be turning?
I ran around the lake for a while and when I got back she had enough water to activate bilge pump for a bit but it has not come on again. She will be in the water for about 4-5 days so I expect her to swell up completely .
She is a nice comfortable ride and with a shorter prop she should jump up and take off.
I will try and get some shots of her on the water. :D

A 1965 Johnson 90 hp Meteor, I got this engine from a hull that had been in storage for 20+ years and she looks like a new engine.

UPDATE>>>>Ran her today on lake , made 21mph with no handling problems. Got a 10x9 1/4 prop yesterday that I will try Sunday with. Bilge seems to have same couple of gal of water still, not enough to trip bilge bump, and no difference after running.
I am thrilled she runs straight and level and comes to plane quickly.
