question about oak

Post by gaff »

I am ripping some air dried white oak for some miscellaneous pieces and found a dark streak running through some of it. Below are two photos showing what I found.

Is anyone familiar with this? Is it a problem and something to avoid?

Thanks

I wonder if it is sap stain? If yes, that means it is sapwood, which should be avoided at all costs in boats. Sapwood is NOT decay resistant.

Probably no propblem structurally.

I was told it is a stain due to a possible nail or metal that was in the tree. You may be right it may be sap wood. I am using some better looking wood to be on the safe side.

Thanks
