rear seat brace

Post by andre lafrance »

on my '57 15' sea coaster deluxe (model 477), the upper rear seat brace which runs from the top of the shearstrake on the port side to the starboard needs to be replaced. what i'd like to know is can that brace be attached to a frame as opposed to the shearstrake itself. it just seems to me that would provide more strength. but, since i'm still learning, i'll appreciate any input. as always, thanks...

I would guess that the back rest brace is attached to the vertical mahogany inwale board. It is on both my 1957 Sea Lancer and 1964 Super Lancer. Plenty strong. Maybe the Sea Coaster is different?????

Here is the '57 Sea Lancer:

and this is the '64 Super Lancer:
