Weight of 1956 Cruisers, Inc 20' Utility?

Post by fspowell »

I recently bought a 1956 Cruisers, Inc 20' Utility Lapstrake boat. It has had a V-6 I/O with an OMC outdrive, but I am repowering it with a 4.3 Liter Mercruiser. I am wondering what the boat weighs? I have all sorts of other questions but I'll start with this.
Thanks,
Steve

Cruisers, Inc. did not have a 20 foot boat in their product line-up in 1956 nor did they have inboard/outboard drives at that time.

Is it possible you have a 1965 model year boat?

I do not have 1965 brochures with me. I do have the CD-ROM of the scanned brochures. It has the 1963 brochure. The 1963 Vacationer model 502 outboard weighs 1,335 pounds. This is the 20'-3" length boat. the 1965 boat probably was not much different. This is weight of the boat only. No motor or engine or outdrive and no fuel tanks, etc.....

Hi Andreas,
thanks for the info. The transom no. 524510 is on the inside on the port side. I have attached a picture in case that helps with ID. Is there any other identifying info attached to this boat possibly?

That boat pictured is definitely NOT 1956. The hull shape is much more modern than what they built in 1956.

Your HULL ID most likely indicates 1965. Is there a badge on the dashboard with the model number, something like "502" in the middle of a "C" ?

Andreas,
I can not find any other ID plates or numbers on the dash or any where else. How could I get a hold of the info about the 1963 Vacationer model 502 outboard model which weighs 1,335 pounds (excluding all power train)? I'd like to be able to compare design or drawings to see if this model is comparable to my own. I can then get the weight of my powertrain from other sources.
thanks,
Steve

Again as stated previously, your HULL ID most likely indicates 1965 model year boat.

Brochures for Cruisers, Inc. have been scanned and they can be purchased on CD-ROM or flash drive at www.wcha.org It's part of the Thompson Boat CD.
