Nails for covering board on 67 Sea Coaster

Post by desseks »

Where can I find nails for the covering boards for my 67 Sea Coaster? The originals are 1" and have a narrow t-type head. Any suggestions?

David,

From your description they sound like brad nails that are made for a the air brad nailers. The air nailer was most likely the tool that was used to attach the cover boards as it is fast and the brads are automatically recessed.

Good Luck,

Here is a suggestion... not easy, but it worked for me. Jamestown sells 1 " ring shank Stainless Steel boat nails. Unfortunately the heads are a bit too large to sink. This took a while , but I chucked each nail in the drill press and filed the head down to a smaller size, ended up with like a finishing nail. These worked great and hold strong because of the ring shank.
