The 1966 Thompson Sea Coaster Deluxe was deputed in the Red Wing, MN, River City Days parade today.
Next project is to rebuild the engine.

Quite a project really. Here's a list of what I've done to the '66 Sea Coaster. Everrywhere I could I used new African Mahogany solid wood to replace old parts (except white oak frames, etc).

sanded hull to bare wood
new ribs aft of dash
new keelson
new stringers
new keel
new transom
new splash well
new deck with 3/8" solid mahogany planks on top of 3/8" ply (bow and stern)
new rub rail
new splash rail
new 1/2 round
new 1/2" flooring
new nautolex
new dash
new seat boxes
new upholstered seats (same design new color)
redoweled / glued window frame
new desk gasket and tear drop gasket
total 8 coats of primer / paint to conceal fasterner heads
10 coats of varnish inside hull and outside mahogany

I am now in the process of getting my '66 65hp Merc looked at and hope to have it in the water by Labor Day if all goes well.

Which paint and varnish did you end up using?

I used Kirby paint from New Bedford, Mass (507-997-9008) which was recommended by Andreas and it worked great. I used high gloss for most of the job and a mixture of Semi-gloss / High gloss for the final coats. It seemed to knock it down a bit and hide any imperfections.

I ended up using Epifanes Wood Finish Gloss for the first 8 coats and Epifanes Clear High Gloss Varnish for the final two. I sprayed the finish on it it worked well as long as it is thinned with the spraying thinner.

I am very satisfied with both products.

I plan on putting a 1966 65hp Merc on it. If it performs well enough, I'd like to stay with it. It's the original engine that came with the boat. Both the boat and engine are of the same year.

If the mechanic thinks this engine is a dead horse, or if its performance is totally inadequate, then I will have to think of another option.

Hopefully it will work out great. Well see soon enough.
