Prop cone - ?

I recently acquired a second outboard, a 1960 75 HP Johnson to complement my 1960 75 HP Evinrude. The cone that covers the propeller hub on the Johnson is 3-1/2 inches long, and the cone on the Evinrude is 2-1/2 inches long. The cones are interchangable between the two outboards.
Question: How does the length of that cone affect performance?
