using a kicker

does anybody use a kicker? I have a 1958 78A Mercury, also called the dock buster. It looks great, rather not get rid of it but I would like to use a small kicker to enter slips and docks without making a scene. I am curious, what concerns I should have in putting this along side my engine? Can I mount on the transom or do I need an additional mounting bracket? The engine I am concidering is an 8hp with a 25inch shaft. I currently have a 20inch. should this be a problem? The new engine is a four stroke, certainly a differnet tank of gas is needed, but is that all? it is a tiller handle.
I appreciate the help.

As long as the prop is in the water and you are just using the kicker to get in and out of slips/docks, it really shouldn't matter if the cavitation plate is at teh bottom of the transom or below.
