when originally built, were the lapstrakes, where they meet the transom, painted or stained? the boat is a 1957 sea coaster deluxe (model 477) 15 feet long. thanks...

NO paint on the end grain of the plywood planking at the transom. Everything on the transom was stained and varnished originally.

What color is it? I have my grandfather / dads 1960 Sealancer that is getting a complete restoration. What color mahogany stain varnish is correct.
